Beauty and the Beast – an inspiring story of personal development

Stories of personal growth and personal development are often interesting for those who practice dahn yoga.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast has become a classic for many households, and what younger viewers see as a purely romantic love story between a pretty girl and an ugly beast is actually a story of self development for both characters.

In the beginning of the movie, the Beast is a handsome prince who is selfish and will not give lodging to an old beggar woman. Unbeknownst to him, the beggar woman is actually an enchantress and she turns him into a beast as punishment for his selfishness.

The Beast must learn to change his personal flaws and develop as a righteous person in order to return to his human form.

Thankfully, he has the help of a young woman named Belle who stumbles into his castle. Belle herself – though she is already kind and nurturing – must learn to see beyond the physical appearances of the Beast and fall in love with his soul and heart within.

One character who shows little sign of self-development through the movie – the antagonist, Gaston – meets a dismal end, in which he not only doesn't get the girl, but he falls off of a tall, dark, gothic tower.

The Switch – personal development in the form of comedy

Many people who are interested in dahn yoga are also intrigued by stories of personal change and personal development.

A 2010 romantic comedy called The Switch – starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman – turns out to be an inspiration about personal development for both men and women.

Kassie Larson – played by Aniston – is a beautiful, career-oriented woman who finds herself nearing a certain age, single and wanting a child. In a courageous move to seek growth in her personal life, she chooses to opt for a sperm donor. Kassie decides to have the child on her own, and her friend Wally – played by Bateman – is both surprised but wants to be supportive.

What everyone familiar with romantic comedies probably knows is that Wally has been in love with Kassie for years. Wally is quite upset as to why Kassie never considers having Wally be the sperm donor. In a drunken state of mind, Wally accidentally switches the sperm sample from a handsome donor with his own.

What ends up happening is a story of women's new-found independence, technological advance opening possibilities to childbirth, the biggest possible secret between friends and ultimately – love that resolves all mix-ups and confusion.

In the process, Wally – a neurotic financier – learns to grow and change in his own way, in order to become a father to his exceedingly cute biological son, Sebastian.

Love & Other Drugs – a surprisingly inspirational story

Dahn yoga looks to improve pain management as well as self healing.

The 2010 movie Love and Other Drugs may seem like a simple romantic comedy starring young actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. However, the story – directed by the famous Edward Zwick – turns out to be both a drama and an inspiration as well as providing laughs and romance.

Gyllenhaal plays Jamie, a very smart young man who takes on a job as a medical representative. He finds himself selling a drug called Viagra. Anne Hathaway plays Maggie Murdock, a free-spirited woman that Jamie falls in love with. However, Maggie takes medication for Parkinson's Disease and her illness continues to give her pain and distress.

The couple struggles to find a place where they can feel secure in their relationship, while confronting a serious illness. In the end, the love that binds them and gives them hope is truly inspirational.

Not only does this movie deal with the current trends of no-strings-attached romantic involvement, it tries to weave elements of life-changing personal illnesses and historical pharmaceutical discoveries in to the mix as well. Being able to heal oneself and reach out to love when it is offered to you is one of the inspiring lessons from the film.
