Unexpected Outcomes

Chun

Two years ago, at 60 years of age and with urgent physical problems, I started an intensive Dahn Yoga program. This resulted in my regaining my health in several months, which convinced me to get training in how to heal family and friends, which in turn led me into a new life stage as a holistic healer and peace maker. Throughout this time, I experienced yoga classes, private healing sessions, weekend workshops, training programs in Arizona and Korea, and conversations with Dahn mentors. Having benefited so significantly in terms of my health, happiness and peace, I am most grateful to Dahn for helping me grow.

While always a skeptic, which usual undermined previous attempts at achieving growth, my Dahn journey has proven to me the integrity and generosity of Dahn instructors, and the quality and effectiveness of Dahn methods. At 62 years, the combined effects of many Dahn experiences have been to strengthen and energize my body, clarify and calm my mind/emotions, and activate and elevate my spirit/soul. Indeed my life has been transformed.

Overcoming Physical Problems

It began when I returned to Maryland from Beijing with many exotic souvenirs and a case of lingering digestive distress. Soon after, other health problems cascaded upon me. So, at 60 years of age, I was feeling old for the first time in my life, and becoming concerned about the scenario of declining and dying – much sooner than I would like. I franticly visited several physicians and alternative health practitioners, but with minimal progress and no convincing explanation as to what was really wrong with me.

Then a friend told me about the Dahn Yoga Center in Bethesda. I had an energy check-up during which I realized how tight and weak my body was, and how anxious and stressed my mind was. Moreover, I concluded that decades of bad habits had generated excessive mental stress and physical tension, which now were endangering my body-mind condition. I heard how the Dahn system of stretching, breathing and meditation could restore my health. All this made sense to me. I had hope again. So, signing up for a one-year membership, I embarked on a routine of hour-long yoga classes, one-on-one healing sessions, and multi-day awakening workshops.

The almost daily Ilchi Lee’s Dahn yoga classes helped me become aware of my body, from its muscles to its organs. My body started to feel alive, less tense, more flexible, and stronger. From being unable to do any push-ups (U.S. Marines style), I one day found myself doing 70. A large part of this progress was realizing how much my mind determined by physical actions, and how I could control both of them. Experiencing greater mind-body communication helped me diminish the link between my body’s tension and my mind’s stress. Of course, no pain, no gain applied to my situation. However, I came to see that I create my pain – by how I label and react emotionally to it. I learned to feel the pain (as well as tenderness, spasms, itchiness, etc.) as signs that my body was healing; on the other side of the pain I discovered new health. I even found I had enough motivation and discipline to extend the good effects of yoga by doing exercises at home in the morning. Thus, I could guarantee that I always awoke on the right side of the bed.

As a result of this yoga practice, some parts of my body revealed themselves to be in a very resistant state and candidates for private healing sessions. For months, I gave over my back, chest, intestines and legs to the healing hands of a master healer. Very positive things started to shift in my body. In addition, I benefited from the emotional release and insights that happened in conversations with her, as she worked on opening and releasing thoughts blocking my mind and body. When I finally touched my toes, I celebrated it as the culmination of letting go of decades of a rigid body-mind system.

During this period I participated in a series of workshops in Dahn’s New Human School. Each one helped me do what they promised: To awaken me to the reality of my life. Ready for Awakening was an overview of the Dahn approach to health in which the holism of the body, mind and spirit was explained. This made so much sense that now it is difficult for me to see it any other way. While taking Initial Awakening, I was able to understand how the body works as an energy system, and how I can work it to full functioning and maximum effect. For the first time, I had a blueprint for how I could become the master of my body. After a lifetime of thinking that my body, and therefore I, was weak and vulnerable, I shifted to the conclusion of the workshop: My body is mine, not me. In More Than Body, I took the clearest look so far to what my mind was all about – thinking and thoughts, feeling and emotions. I could view them as negative energy and information, over which I was the boss: My mind is mine, not me. Most revealing was the process I could do to release long-held, bad-habit negativity – angers, fears, hurts, shame and sadness – so I could learn to be freer of them.

Another workshop, Shim, Korean for The Joy of Finding Your True Self, was a major revelation and breakthrough for me. It made vividly clear that I have a choice: To live in the world controlled by my ego (identity or personality), with its accumulated strengths and entrenched limitations, or the world of my true self (soul), with its state of being of love, joy, peace, freedom, wisdom and the like. With each exercise, I found myself breaking down walls of preconceptions that separated me from my heart, and getting in touch with my essence, my true self. This new awareness has helped me discern whether a behavior, thought or emotion is coming from my negative ego or true self. The Healing Chakra workshop introduced me to the seven energy centers in me and how they affect my holistic health. I learned to know my chakras, improve their functioning, and use them in combination to realize greater physical healing, energy activity, and spiritual awareness.

Within several months, the results were positive, bordering on astounding. My health problems went away – digestion under control, legs able to climb stairs without my sweating, hernia surgery no longer necessary, and my complexion cleared up. In addition, I was surprised and delighted with other unexpected outcomes – loss of excess weight and disappearance of my potbelly, sleeping through the entire night (my bladder and me), absence of panic with blood-test needles, more productive and relaxed business trips, strength to do physical feats I had never done before, and greater peace of mind to deal with stressful episodes.

Dahn Instructor training

Ilchi Lee Selection

Attend Regular Dahn classes 2-3 times per week, Shim Sung in Sept.2006, Group healing sessions with Chun Shim Nim Oct. 2006-Jan. 2007. Healer School Feb. 2007. Essence Training April 2007 . Healing Sessions with Lucy April 2007.Power Brain 2007. Capsule Training 2007. TA training June 2007. Dahn Instructor training Sept. 2007. Chun Mung Training Oct. 2007. Group Healing Nov. 2007. Healing Chakra Dec. 2007. Advanced Shim Sung March 2008. BESA April 2008.

Before Dahn I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia which I had for 12 years. I was physically tired most of the time with little energy beyond working full time and caring for my house. I suffered from severe stiffness and abdominal distention. Mentally I felt I was in a fog a lot of the time. This is called Fibro Fog.

Since Dahn Yoga my stiffness has greatly improved. I am able to assume all of the yoga poses which before were a great challenge to me. I feel mentally more alert and clear. I have a lot more energy and am able to keep a fairly demanding schedule including teaching 6 yoga classes per week am happier and brighter with a true purpose in life.

I frequently say that if I hadn’t of signed up for 6 months membership on my first visit to Dahn I probably would have quit after 1 week. I was so stiff , unable to hold most of the poses and needing help to get off of the floor. I had poor self esteem and thought I would never be able to bend and stretch like the other members.Kyu, the center manager was very patient and encouraging. He never focused on my inabilities. He recommended healing sessions and Shim Sung.

Through Healing Sessions I began to be able to stretch and learned some dietary suggestions. I learned how to use moxibustion to help my condition.

Shim Sung was incredible. It helped me see that I could make other choices in life and I once again established a deep connection to my Soul. After Shim Sung I decided to retire from my full time Nursing career of 35 years and devote more time to my Dahn practice. I retired in Jan, 2007 and was allowed to work 2 days a week to training new staff. I began teaching a Yoga class at a community health center in Dorchester to diabetic patients. I teach 2 days a week.

Since healer school I have used the skills I learned on a regular basis.I do healing sessions on many of my family members and friends. I also teach some simple healing techniques to staff at work.

In Oct. 2007 I got permission from my employer ( The American Red Cross) to begin a yoga class for employees. I began by teaching 1 class a week with 6 participants. I have recently expanded to 4 classes per week and now have about 20-25 members.

The Red Cross has also agreed to pay 50% of the cost of Shim Sung for any nurse who wishes to attend. The first nurse is registered to attend this month.

As I continue to take action my soul seems to grow more and more. I keep changing what my definition of sincerity and devotion are . I believe my sincerity in living for my soul has deepened and is more constant. Before it was as though it was a part time job and now it has become my full time focus. I believe I’ve changed what I am devoted to. Before I was devoted to religion and now I’m devoted to my soul’s growth. Christianity was an attachment for me and once I was able to let go of it as that I’ve been able to grow more. I haven’t forsaken Christianity . My relationship to Christ has just changed. It is healthier. I’ve been able to let go of religion and I believe I’m more real to people.

It is my practice to bow every day. It has helped to make my love for humanity more real and it has helped me to maintain a humble mind.

Physically my condition continues to improve although I am not totally free of the symptoms of fibromyalgia. I have let go of a lot of my resistance to change. I have also let go of a lot of negative attitudes. I am much more aware of any negativity that I hold. I am more trusting of myself and the universe. And I have learned to genuinely love myself. I live a joyfull happy life.

Through Chun Mung training I acquired the name SungMo (Sacred Mother).I do believe this is who I am. I continue to grow in this motherly role. As I grow and expand my vision I have noticed that my heart chakra opens more and more. It is truly amazing.

My whole experience within Dahn has been one awakening after another. Even though I struggled with how Dahn and Christianity would or could fit together I trusted that if it were part of God’s plan the two would blend together. And they have.

I frequently return to the state of Mua realizing it is where Chunjikun can perform best. If only I could always be Mua.

It is my desire to continue to grow and live for my purpose which is for others to know God’s unconditional love without a lot of words. That others would just feel His love.

High Blood Pressure And Dahn Yoga

Published by squeak under Dahn Yoga, General, Ilchi Lee

Mafida

I have been attending classes at Dahn Yoga for around nine months. When I started, I had high blood pressure, so I was taking 100 mg of Toporol XL, in addition to a diuretic. I was completely stressed out and taking an anti-anxiety medication. My goals were to lower my blood pressure and my stress level. After starting Dahn classes, I started to feel less stressed, have much more energy, and slept much deeper. I lost around 12 pounds and have found that my eating patterns are healthier. My blood pressure is now under control. I am now on only 5mg of my medication (down from 100mg).

Also, I was at a crossroads in my personal life, knowing that I had to make radical changes in my personal life in order to find meaning in my life. But I was unable to find the strength to take the steps I needed to. After I attended the Initial Awakening workshop, I began to understand more about the holistic side of Dahn. Beyond helping to improve my physical health, regular Dahn classes and private healing sessions have enabled me to deal with my anxiety. I no longer take medication for anxiety. I am a much calmer, happier, and more productive person. Thanks to Ilchi Lee.

Earth Human

Published by lasvegasadmin under General, Ilchi Lee

peaceology1.JPG From ‘Peaceology’ book by Ilchi Lee

An Earth-Human is someone who realizes that Earth, and peace on Earth, are the central standards, by which we should measure all decisions. How can you know if you are making the right decision for the Earth? Just follow your conscience, for it is part of the soul of the Earth and the Cosmos. If our conscience stands for that divine scale within us, by which to judge the relative weight of options that face us, then the point on the scale that corresponds to zero is Earth. By calibrating our inner scales to the Earth, we are making Earth the standard by which to judge our options. In other words, Earth is the absolute value against which we may judge all other relative values.

Many people claim to love the Earth. However, what exactly does that mean? Just as loving home does not refer only to caring for the house, loving the Earth cannot be limited to environmental protection. Loving the Earth must include acknowledging her people as one unified community. We must then protect our home and our entire family. This is what loving the Earth can mean.

An Earth-Human has a connection to body, mind, and energy of the Earth. An Earth-Human knows he or she is one with the earth, and one with the whole of humanity. He or she therefore cares for and heals neighbors and family members with the unconditional love of the soul. An Earth-Human is a healer in every sense of the word. When our consciousness makes the leap and becomes Earth consciousness, we gain and group-egotism, and feel love for all of life on Earth.

Some people argue that we should not limit awareness to the Earth in this age of space travel and space stations. What they do not realize is that being truly aware of the Earth will allow us to gain awareness of the cosmos as well, for they are intimately interrelated. They are in fact, one. You will experience cosmic arareness when you become truly conscious of the Earth. To do so, you must be free of preconceptions and self-defeating ideas of limitation. Earth provides us with a matrix for the path to conscious evolution and cosmic awareness….

Curl Your Tailbone

Published by admin under General

Your tailbone is one of the most overlooked parts of the body, yet its position during your training exercises is the key to achieving optimal physical and mental well being. Curling the tailbone creates a bowl in which energy in the Dahn-jon can accumulate. By tilting the tailbone inward and upward at a concave angle, or curving it like the inside of a bowl, the energy of the lower Dahn-jon is contained.

You have a Self who watches you.

Published by ann under General, Ilchi Lee

You live with many thoughts, emotions, and habits at the surface of your being, but at the same time you have another eye, another mind capable of watching all these things.  A practitioner finds that mind, lives with that mind, and dies with that mind.

Let My Love Open The Door

Published by ann under General, Testimonials

water-lilies.jpg

When people keep repeating
that you’ll never fall in love.
When everyone keeps retreating
but you can’t seem to get enough.

Let my love open the door.
Let my love open the door.
Let my love open the door to your heart.

When everything feels all over
everyone seems unkind.
I’ll give you a four-leaf clover
take all worry out your mind.

Let my love open the door.
Let my love open the door.
Let my love open the door to your heart.

I have the only key to your heart
I can stop you falling apart.
Release yourself from misery
there’s only one thing to set you free.

That’s my love.

What Have You Given Away Today?

Published by admin under General

by Georgia B. Adams

What have you given away today?
A sweet summery boquet?
Or just a kind word where needed most…
What have you given away?

Have you given hope where there is pain?
Have you shared a thought or two,
With someone whose road is rough and steep?

Have you helped someone be true?
Have you spread Sunshine along the path?
Have you smiled a smile and then…
Extending a handclash warm and true…
Restoring cheer again?

It’s not what you get, but what you give,
That matters so much today…
Just ask the question when the day is through,
“What have I given away”?
