Senior Week in Canada to be celebrated with free yoga for older enthusiasts
The beauty of yoga is that it can be adopted at any age, and this holistic mind-body system may be especially beneficial for seniors. Older Americans have an increased risk of developing many types of chronic diseases. They may also face a greater chance of having mental illnesses due to the pressure of staying financially stable during retirement, maintaining their health in order to prevent significant medical costs and keeping in contact with friends after leaving the workforce.
As a result, countless yoga classes have been launched across the country for older adults who want to get in shape, relax and make friends.
One such class is being held free of charge in Canada during the region's annual Senior Week celebrations, according to the Cochrane Times.
The session will focus on achieving well-being through improving mindfulness, and will be taught by a 60-year-old instructor who understands the challenges that older individuals face. He plans to encourage attendees to enhance their flexibility through gentle stretching, as well as to tighten their core muscles and improve their balance through the purposeful, calming poses of yoga.
