When I began Dahn Practice in July 2006 I was somewhat depressed, lethargic, had no energy, overweight and I felt stuck in a situation with work I wasn’t happy with. I felt stressed and overworked. I was angry and unhappy and didn’t know how to change. I started Dahn Yoga as a way to get me out of the office and help with stress. I had no idea all the benefits I would gain.
Now my condition is very good. I have lost over 30 lbs. and I look and feel younger than I did 10 years ago. I often hear that from friends and peers especially those that haven’t seen me in a while. But most importantly my health is so improved daily, blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and thyroid; all are improved. My marriage is better than it’s been in years. I don’t hold anger any longer. I’ve learned to manage stress and find focus and meaning in my life.

When did you begin?
How have you improved in these areas? I sleep better, I am more flexible, my knees no longer hurt. I was a size 12 and am now a size 6. How often do you attend class? Almost every day if possible. What others notice about you now? People say I look younger. When I began Dahn Yoga Practice my condition was:
I was tired and under a lot of stress. I was dieting and exercising without drastic results to say the least. I was looking for something to help me feel better, Ilchi Lee.
Now my condition is: I sleep better. I have more energy. My knees do not hurt any more. I am more comfortable with myself.

About three years ago I happened upon the Dahn yoga center in downtown Seattle, where I was living at the time. I went in to check it out and returned a few days later for my energy check. When I learned that a focus of Dahn practice was integration of body, mind, and spirit, I knew I wanted to try it. I joined immediately and have been reaping the benefits ever since. Physically my body is stronger and more flexible. I can even do pushups and handstands, which I have never been able to do before. Mentally my mind is clearer and not so cluttered with constant meaningless chatter. And spiritually I have progressed tremendously. From the beginning I loved the positive, warm, loving energy in the Dahn center. When I injured my back a few weeks after joining, I continued to go to class, even though I couldn’t physically do much. I really believe that helped my back to heal more rapidly than it otherwise would have.
Shortly after joining the Dahn center, I heard about the Ilchi Lee Dahn Healer School. I was immediately intrigued by the thought of being able to be a healer, and I enrolled in the course a few months later. What an incredible learning and healing experience! Just being at Mago Garden is a loving and healing experience in itself. And the instructors and staff are superb.
Also since I joined Dahn, I have attended several workshops: Healing Chakra, Initial Awakening, More Than Body, and Shim Sung. Each of the workshops helped me to grow considerably, and helped me to release a tremendous amount of emotional weight that I had carried around for years. I feel so much freer and more peaceful. I have also served on the staff of several Shim Sung workshops, and each one is another inspiring and growing experience.
Two years ago I moved from Seattle to Sedona and transferred my Dahn membership to the Sedona center. This is now my Dahn home, and I love it here just as I did my original center in Seattle.

Since beginning my practice, I have experienced changes that have transformed my life. My physical condition has vastly improved. Before becoming a member, I endured severe knee, back and neck pain attributed to arthritis. My entire body was rigid and stiff from years of internalizing intense stress. I was also extremely overweight. Currently, most of my arthritic symptoms have disappeared, and my legs, ankles, feet, and back are flexible and for the most part without pain. My stress level has decreased significantly, and I am learning ways to reduce the impact of stress on my body. I have lost more that 65 pounds. When I am asked about my weight loss, I explain that I now eat mostly fruits, vegetables and some fish. I also take in about one third of the calories I used to consume and attend classes at least five days a week. But, stress reduction is the main factor allowing me to shed excess pounds. As a result of my improved health, my cholesterol level, blood pressure and heart rate have decreased. However, my improved physical health is only part of my story.

Because of my body and brain training, I have become calmer and clearer, both personally and professionally. My relationships with my family and my colleagues at work are more effective and mutually enjoyable. When conflict occurs, I am better able to cope because I am confident that I can handle the situation professionally and humanely. My goals include living purposefully – to model and teach peaceful existence – and to develop and use my authentic self, which I realize depends on my ability to use my brain to change old habits and substitute a healthy, creative and productive lifestyle.
